There’s more to life than skinny jeans

Skinny jeans have been hugging the fashion headlines for months, if not years. Many women therefore think they ought to wear skinny jeans because it has become de rigueur. But there are other jeans styles out there that do not require contorting our bodies into strange shapes to merely get into them.

There are tons of styles available that look good on women, no matter what their body shape is. It makes sense to go for jeans from companies such as the ones from NYDJ Jeans that do not come in skinny.

Bootcut jeans

These jeans are possibly the most flattering to any body shape: they put all the attention on the lower half of the legs and deflect attention from the trouble spots - hips and thighs. These jeans are the best for pear shapes.

Low waist jeans

These jeans could be flattering to most body types as long as they do not veer towards the extreme. For that reason it may be better to wear medium rise jeans.

Straight leg jeans

A straight leg jean is another flattering cut, no matter what your body shape may be. The jeans has one width all over and works especially well for women who are curvy.

Capri jeans

Capri pants fit under the knee and could be either straight or wide-leg pants. They can be very flattering and they can look good dressed up or more casual.

Bell-bottom jeans

The only difference between bell-bottom pants and regular straight-legged jeans is that the former widens under the knee. It makes a shape reminiscent of a bell, which is why we call them bell-bottoms. Don’t wear these jeans too tight. Go for something that fits a bit more loosely.

Denim shorts

Though short denim shorts do not flatter all figures and look good mostly on slender women, there are still many versions that regular women with regular figures can wear with confidence. They’re ideal for wearing to the beach during summer.

Buying Perfectly Fitting Jeans Online

by Barbara Ewing

In our fast-paced and busy world it makes sense to save time whenever possible. Why not save some time clothes shopping and purchase jeans online? It is easier than you think, so long as you have a tape measure and take five crucial measurements.

Get your measuring tape, and grab a willing friend if possible. A second pair of hands makes the process much easier. When you take measurements, hold the tape measure slightly loose but not so loose it is slipping.

1. Upper waist: Most of us don’t think in terms of upper and lower waist. It’s even more complicated when you realize that the upper waist, used to determine the jeans waist measurements, is not where your actual waistband will sit once the jeans are on. You need to measure at the smallest part of your waist, even though your waistband will likely hit lower. If you measure where the waistband will hit, the jeans may be baggy at the waist.

2. Lower waist: Wrap the tape around your waist just below the pointy part of your hip. If this is unclear, you’ll need to do some visualization. Picture where low-rise jeans would hit on you, and wear high-waisted jeans would hit. Now, take the measurement at the mid point between these two places.

3. Bottom width: This measurement is taken at the widest point of the hips. Generally, you’ll find that this number will be a few inches larger than will the lower waist measurement.

4. Thigh width: Take this measurement around the widest part of the thigh.

5. Inseam length: This measurement is not taken on the body. Using a pair of jeans that fit you perfectly, measure the length of the inner leg from the crotch seam to the bottom of the cuff. You can lay the jeans flat to do this, as this can make it easier.

Now you are ready to buy the jeans. Once you are on the jeans site, add an inch to each of the measurements provided on the site as guidelines for what size to purchase.

Sizing will vary by manufacturer’s country of origin. Companies based in the United States use US measurements, companies from England will use UK measurements, Italian or French companies will use European measurements, and so on. It will be easy to make the determination once you see the size listing at the website.

The Evolution of Jeans
By Adam R. Singleton

A good pair of jeans is an essential element of any wardrobe - at least this used to be the case.

Now, it seems that no wardrobe is complete without an entire set of jeans - ranging from those to simply throw on and relax in, to dressier jeans that are ideal for any night out. Indeed, jeans complement all styles and activities so it's no wonder they're one of the most worn items of clothing in the world.

Yet, like many items of clothing in the world of fashion, jeans have come a long way over the years - in terms of both style and culture.

For instance, jeans were originally designed for labourers, factory workers, and sailors during the 19th century, originating independently in France, India, and later in Italy. However, almost a century later, in the 1950s, jeans took on immense popularity with teenagers - turning the item of clothing into a casual must-have for young people.

At around the same time, many movie stars began to popularise jeans even more by wearing them in movies - one example being James Dean, who wore jeans in ‘Rebel Without A Cause’. Thus, jeans became somewhat of a symbol of rebellion during the 1950s, simultaneously attracting and repelling consumers for this very reason.

However, jeans only became more popular with time, turning into a general fashion item by the 1970s. This was also around the time that the denim stone washing technique became popular, meaning there was a denim “wash" for everyone - regardless of age or style.

Variations of denim didn't end there. Jeans suddenly took on a slimmer fit; replacing the common loose fit of their original design - a trend that would reverse on itself multiple times over the years. Consumers could ultimately choose from slim-fitting jeans with flared or “boot-cut" bottoms, baggy jeans, straight leg jeans, and “skinny" jeans - among numerous other denim styles.

Of course, with the growing popularity of jeans, many clothing manufacturers began to develop their own distinctive variations of denim, giving consumers many denim options to choose from.

What's more, many of these brands, for instance, Wrangler, Lucky, Lee and Levis, ultimately emerged as historic names in the world of denim, and continue to lead the industry with both classic and innovative denim designs today - implying it's one item of clothing that's bound to stick around for awhile.
